Airbus achieves an ‘industry first’ with the multi-objective optimization of its aircraft families with DATADVANCE’s “MACROS” software
29 August 2013, MAKS Airshow 2013 – Airbus has undertaken the multi-disciplinary optimization modeling of its aircraft families at conceptual level using software from Datadvance called “MACROS”. MACROS is an easy-to-use process integration, design optimization and intellectual data analysis application which helps its users to quickly solve challenging scenarios. The system has been developed not only for simulation, data analysis and optimization experts but also for all engineers, who want to improve their products and reduce product development time and cost.
Charles Champion, EVP Head of Engineering said: “Airbus wants to remain at the leading edge of innovation in Science and Technology. MACROS will help Airbus to perform its trade-off studies more efficiently across all development phases and to find more opportunities in the design of the future aircraft.”
“We are convinced that our multi-objective optimization algorithms combined with surrogate modeling capability in MACROS are helpful in aircraft architecture investigations,” said Sergey Morozov, CTO of Datadvance. “Such an approach facilitates the trade-off between several aspects of product performance, manufacturing and operating costs right from the beginning. MACROS is clearly answering to a strong demand from the market.”
The recent achievement at Airbus demonstrated the software’s capability to process nine objective functions, about dozen degrees of freedom and more than thirty constraints in a timeframe compatible with conceptual design cycles. This tool has enabled engineers to find a set of “Pareto optimal solutions”, resulting in better design choices for the Airbus’ family of aircraft with optimum performance relative to their respective seat and range capabilities.
DATADVANCE specializes in the development of software for predictive modeling, intellectual data analysis and multi-disciplinary optimization. MACROS – its flagship product – is the result of close cooperation with the Institute for Information Transmission Problems of Russian Academy of Sciences, one of the leading mathematical centers in Russia.
Airbus is a leading aircraft manufacturer with the most modern and comprehensive family of airliners on the market, ranging in capacity from 100 to more than 500 seats. Airbus champions innovative technologies and offers the world’s most fuel-efficient and quiet aircraft. Headquartered in Toulouse, France, Airbus is an EADS company.
